We start by using a blacklight to identify any and all urine deposits in the carpet to insure we do not miss any affected spots / areas. After topical enzyme application we continue with our standard 6-step cleaning process. Topical application is great for treating smaller deposits that have not saturated below the carpet backing.
With larger urine deposits and for areas that have been peed on multiple times, the urine often saturates down below the carpet backing into the padding and even into the subfloor. When the urine reaches the sponge-like padding material it will often expand and double the size of the area that needs to be treated. We start by completely saturating the area with our enzyme solution, allowing adequate dwell time for maximum effectiveness. We then use our "Water Claw" subsurface extraction tool to flush the padding with 240 degree water. This allows us to flush and extract the carpet fibers, backing, and padding.
For extreme scenarios of urine contamination where the carpet and padding materials are no longer salvageable, we will remove and dispose of all affected carpet and padding. Once the subfloor is completely exposed, we will treat the subfloor with our enzyme solution. (Subflooring materials such as porous concrete or t&g plywood can become saturated with urine and still have a lingering urine odor if not properly treated). After subfloor treatment, we apply a sealer coating to the subfloor surface to prepare it for new padding and carpet installation.
